Key Bank Tower Implosion - SLC, UT - SLOW MOTION
September 16th, 2008 ~ Posted in: bank houses
It took about 180 lbs of explosives to bring the building down!
At 6:38 Saturday morning, the downtown skyline changed forever as crews imploded the Key Bank Tower.
The tower, at 50 South Main, came down to make room for the City Creek Center development project. By the year 2011, new shopping centers and houses will stand in the Key Bank Tower’s place.
It only took seconds to bring down the 20 story building. Several downtown blocks surrounding the tower will remain shut down Saturday morning during clean up.

The cheers make it sound like everyone just *hated* that building… ha.
I was up at the U when they knocked it, we could only see the clouds. But downtown the air *still* feels a little nasty.

Fun for the atmosphere, but the view was obstructed. I bought a room at the Plaza to get a better shot, but the best belongs to the 3:00 clip.
